USPS Zone Based Pricing
Since 2019, the United States Postal Service (USPS) began using Zone Based Pricing for the following services:
USPS uses the term "zones" to describe the distance a domestic shipment must travel from origin to the destination address. A zone is determined by the FROM and TO zip codes. The farther a package must travel, the more zones it crosses, and therefor it is more expensive. Zones range from Zone 1 to Zone 9.
International shipping is similarly broken into zones, but known as Price Groups. For more information on International Price Groups you can click here.
To look up the zones for your shipment, you can use the USPS Zone lookup tool. If you have to find the destination ZIP code as well, click here. If you are looking for specific rates, please, use our Free Multi-Carrier Shipping Calculator.
Zones are dynamically calculated based on where your shipment is originated from. If two packages are shipped from different origin addresses to a similar destination address, the rates will vary depending on the distance of the origin address.
How are zones calculated?
Current Zone Distance Metrics
| ZONE 1 | within 50 mile radius of the origin |
| ZONE 2 | 51 - 150 mile radius |
| ZONE 3 | 151 - 300 mile radius |
| ZONE 4 | 301 - 600 mile radius |
| ZONE 5 | 601 - 1000 mile radius |
| ZONE 6 | 1001 - 1400 mile radius |
| ZONE 7 | 1401 - 1800 mile radius |
| ZONE 8 | 1801 miles or greater |
| ZONE 9 | Freely Associated States |
