It is important to confirm the destination address is valid, to avoid undeliverable and surcharges. blue provides the USPS address verification for free, we connect to the USPS address verification API to check the accuracy of the US address.
To validate the US destination address, follow these simple steps:
- Log in to your blue account and select Address Explorer from the left menu bar. Address Explorer form will appear as shown on image below.
- Simply type the address you would like to validate. Enter a street address along with city and state OR enter a street address and ZIP Code. Additionally, blue uses Google Auto Compete to quickly enter address data, as shown below.
- Once you enter your address, click Verify Address with USPS. In lower part of the screen, you will be presented with the validation result, indicating if address is a match to a deliverable address, or not. If more than one address matches the information provided, try narrowing your search by entering a street number, or a unit number in APT/SUITE field. You can review suggested addresses listed in result, as shown on image below.
Once you complete correction, click Verify Address with USPS. New validation result will appear, like example below.
blue gives you an option to enforce tight validation rules, so that label can't be created if address is not precise match. Strict Address Verification feature, when active, forces addresses to perfectly match USPS requirement, before address is passed and label created. Also, you may explore addresses by ZIP - Input a 5-digit ZIP and this tool will display the associated cities as well as all the street names in that ZIP5. This can be particularly useful for Puerto Rican and US Territorial addresses.
When shipping to an APO/DPO/FPO military address, the "street names" are generally military units or ships. To obtain a ZIP+4, match you must input the "street name" exactly.
