How to ship to Military Addresses?
Military Addresses are:
- APO - Army Post Office - associated with Army or Air Force installations.
- FPO - Fleet Post Office - associated with Navy installations and ships.
- DPO - Diplomatic Post Office - associated with U.S. embassies overseas.
Addressing a shipping label for an APO/FPO/DPO package should be done as the following rules say:
1. NAME OF THE RECIPIENT
Rank/grade/rating is optional for APO or FPO. Do not include the recipient’s title for DPO.
2. INCLUDE THE UNIT AND BOX NUMBER
Army: Unit [Number] Box [Number]
Air Force: PSC [Number] Box [Number]
Navy: Ship [Number] Hull [Number]
Embassy: Unit [Number] Box [Number]
3. CITY should be APO, FPO, or DPO. DO NOT add the name of the actual city.
4. STATE
AA (Armed Forces Americas)
AE (Armed Forces Europe)
AP (Armed Forces Pacific)
DO NOT add the name of the actual state or country.
5. ZIP CODE
Enter the 5-digit zip code for the military unit. It starts with a 0 or 9.
It should look like this:
First and Last Name
Unit 1 Box 1000
APO, AE 09898
Before being shipped to their international destinations, these packages are sent to Miami, New York, or San Francisco:
- AP (Armed Forces Pacific) mail is routed to San Francisco
- AA (Armed Forces Americas) mail is routed to Miami
- AE (Armed Forces Europe) mail is routed to New York City
When the package arrives to its destination , it is handed over to a Military Postal Service representative. It is then delivered to the Military Post Office, and the military delivers the mail around the world. This means that sometimes it can take longer than usual for delivery time.
Delivery times:

USPS treats these addresses as domestic destinations, but a customs form is required for APO/DPO/FPO addresses. To create a customs form on blue, please read here.
