What is Cubic Pricing and how does it work?
USPS Cubic Pricing provides discounted rates for any shippers that ship small/heavy packages. Packages that are eligible for Cubic Pricing must meet the following requirements:
- No more than 20 pounds
- No more than 0.5 cubic feet volume
- No dimension longer than 18 inches.
It is important to understand how to calculate the correct rate, which can be done in a couple of steps:
A. Measure the outer Length, Width, and Height of your package (18" max in any dimension). If any of the measurements are over the nearest quarter inch, round down to the nearest quarter inch (for example: 5.6" inches turn into 5.5" inches).
B. Multiply the Length x Width x Height and divide the result by 1728.
NOTE: The result is the size of the package is in cubic feet. If the result is fractional it should be rounded up to the next tier (for example: a package that is 0.24 cubic feet, will be in the 0.3 tier). |
Cubic Pricing operates on a five-tier system, you can determine which pricing tier your package is in by reading the tiers below:
0.1: Packages up to 0.1 cubic feet
0.2: Packages between 0.1 and 0.199 cubic feet
0.3: Packages between 0.2 and 0.299 cubic feet
0.4: Packages between 0.3 and 0.399 cubic feet
0.5: Packages between 0.4 and 0.5 cubic feet
